Capital Advisor — Product Design

A private banking service, now for everyone.

 Intro —

 

We have been working for two years on this hybrid robo-advisor with excellent results. The product, which will be released later this year, combines user profiling based on risk and investment behavior with a portfolio modification console and a powerful recommendation service that makes investing, whatever the client’s level of expertise, easy and attractive. An intuitive interface, projection charts, integrated aggregation, and professional and customizable service are sure to make this service a success.

What we do best, now in digital.

The goal of the project was clear: to combine Bankinter's great investment product offering, with its prestigious research team and be able to bring all of that to the client in a digital and personalized way.

Therefore, we divided the product design into 3 key areas to delve into:

  1. User profiling, beyond profitability and risk.

  2. A powerful configuration tool that would allow users to modify their portfolio to their liking, offering comparisons and investment projection over time.

  3. A system of recommendations, supported by the analysis team and easily applicable to the portfolio.

Based on previous research and using all the knowledge about our investor user archetypes, we worked hard with the business team to define the first designs. When they were ready for testing, the feedback regarding the service and the experience was very positive.

As Capital Advisor is a service aimed at all types of users, we did a second, more in-depth research with expert investors. Their participation was key to refine some technical aspects of the product and the information displayed on the most critical screens of the experience. We refined the designs to fit different needs, raising the level of complexity only when requested by the user, and we certainly learned a lot about funds, assets, and investment portfolios.

Tell me who you are and we tell you how to invest.

We worked on a portfolio customization process during several co-creation sessions with the business team and experts. On the one hand, we wanted to get away from the typical traditional robo-advisor profiler to understand the user's needs, and on the other hand, to incorporate the aggregation of products from other banks to understand the client's current portfolio and propose a better alternative by showing the comparison and analysis of both.

Secondly, we worked on a configuration console that would allow the user to play with the assets until the proposal fit 100% with their needs. To do this, we designed a control panel with all the configuration options always visible but leaving all the focus on the projection chart and portfolio analysis.

Once the user is 100% satisfied with the proposal, they can continue with a quick and simple contracting process, depositing money from their accounts or transferring their current portfolio contracted with another bank.

Once again, you will never walk alone.

Almost all the interviews we have conducted with Bankinter clients have shown us that for our users, the figure of a personal manager, of a human person who cares about their money and helps them manage it, is key to their engagement with the bank. Therefore, in this service, it was key to maintain that figure and not replace it only with a robot.

With this in mind, we designed a recommendation process, linked to regular updates from our analysis team. In this way, the user receives personalized recommendations in their private area based on the composition of their portfolio. These recommendations are shown directly with a projection graph and compared with the client's current portfolio, indicating in detail the movements to be made. The user can choose to accept the recommendation, modify some details, or reject it. Of course, whatever he chooses, it will become a reality in just a couple of clicks.

Until now, only private banking clients have been able to enjoy a personalized service to help them manage their assets. This new service will allow us to bring our expertise to all clients and we are confident that it will work very well. The tests with users and control groups over the last few months have been a success and we hope that it will be equally well received by the rest of our clients.
